The Nintendo Gift Guide for the Clueless

Every year, I usually ask for the same thing: games and game-related items. My wife never buys me any games because she knows that I will get them from someone else or I will buy them with gift cards or monetary gifts. This makes it difficult for my wife to decide what to purchase for her resident nerd. So, she suggested I write a Nintendo holiday shopping guide to help you (and to give her a hint of what I might like to see under the tree this year).

With so many different ideas and categories, I will narrow it down to some of my favorites. Let’s start out by looking at old school nerd ideas. The TravelBoy Backpack will surely let everyone know that you’re a master of the 8-bit arts and make any parent from that era tear up in happiness when their son or daughter sports it to school. At $39.99 it makes a great gift to haul around books, overnight items, and yes, even games.

Who wouldn’t want to lug games around, and one of the best ways to do that is to use the Retro Duo Portable NES/SNES. This gem allows you to either play NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) or SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System) titles on the go and is priced between $24.99 and $99.99 depending on the accessories purchased along with it.

When video game enthusiasts decorate, we go against the norm: no Hounds tooth drapes or chevron sheets; we want a place where we want to make new memories but be reminded of old ones as well. Wall graphics have always been a favorite of mine so having a scene from a favorite game come alive on the walls of your home makes me smile. Pick up Nintendo Super Mario Brothers Wall Graphics for the price of $69.99. You could get your friends or family a nice poster and frame it or get some Nintendo Canvas Wall Hangings ($9.99 to $39.99). Another option would be a lovely still life painting of favorite Nintendo worlds from Lizustration. Lizustration uses an old art style with modern gaming icons to put a classic twist on gaming art. Brighten up your living space with wonderful lighting décor from The Back Pack Shoppe. They feature question mark blocks and triforce lamps. While you’re enjoying the view of the newly decorated home from your couch, rest your head on a variety of kneel throw pillows for $19.84.

While relaxing, I always want a few things to make it a bit more enjoyable. First, I love listening to music from Nintendo games, whether it is the original score or a modified track. One new album that has caught my attention is an album called “Child of the Chozo” by William Brueggemann. This 20-track album features a variety of tracks that pay tribute to the Metroid series and offers a stroll down memory lane for a mere $5.00. If you don’t think that this will quench your nerd’s thirst, then buy tickets to “Video Games Live." This is a live show featuring the talented Tommy Tallarico who plays amazing renditions of video game classics from his many unique guitars, along with featured guests and a live orchestra. Plus, there are many contests and merchandise galore.

You cannot attend a gamer’s festival without sporting some videogame gear. If you were to decide to go to Video Games Live or other events, you cannot attend such a festival without sporting some kind of videogame gear. You can find an abundance of clothes and accessories at one of my favorite game swag stores, 80stees, and you will go bananas over the appealing selection.

Currently I’m reading a wonderful book that most Nintendo fanatics and history buffs will enjoy: “How Nintendo Conquered America": SuperMario” By: Jeff Ryan. This Book takes you through the history of Nintendo and its roller coaster ride over the years.

Lastly, if you want to protect yourself and look cool doing so head over to SwordsSwords  and get yourself a Master Sword and shield; if that’s not your style there are plenty of other beautifully crafted pieces for you to choose from.

All and all if all of these gift ideas look like a GAME OVER for the person you’re buying for, you can always rely on Nintendo E-shop cards which come in a variety of artworks and amounts. Surely, your friends and family can use this gift to purchase the right game or downloadable content to appease their gaming appetite.

May all of you have a wonderful holiday season, and enjoy what the gaming world has to offer.
