Mario Re-maker

With the buzz from the Video Game Awards (VGA) 2014, we have to wonder what the future will hold for Nintendo. After showing game previews of Codename S.T.E.A.M and Zelda Wii U we know that 2015 will keep Nintendo striving for excellence on their platforms. Yet I believe one such title can open the gates to a more creative future.
Shigeru Miyamoto brought about some of the most invaluable assets to gaming including Zelda, Donkey Kong, and everyone’s favorite, pasta professional, Mario. Mario has been a staple in most every gamer’s life one way of another and year after year, console after console, we got to tag along on his most excellent of adventures. The Mushroom Kingdom, tropical islands, and even the far reaches of space have been highlights of this plumber’s travel destinations. Now a new era of Mario has come forth, where we decide his side-scrolling symphony. Now we are Shigeru and Mario is our masterpiece.

With the arrival of Mario Maker, we as the players now become the inventor for whatever we can conjuror. With so many different ways to tackle how we want to create a level it will surely be an adventure.
Within Mario Maker you will use your stylus to create a level to your choosing. Backgrounds, enemies, power ups, and even the specific game style look to the overall creation. Making this game is a treasure trove to the imaginative and naturally gifted. What I do know is if this is possible what other ideas or worlds could Nintendo create or pursue.
Back in 1992 Nintendo also took upon themselves to make another creative piece that to this day is one of the most beloved music genre titles, it was of course Mario Paint. In Mario Paint you would create songs with the different character notes you placed on the music sheet. Once you placed them and hit play it could create a piece of musical wonderment or just a piece. Either way, it was an amazing title and to this day I don’t know why there has not been a re-make to this game.

Just imagine the possibilities to this re-make. Wielding the power of the Wii U’s tablet interface and clean cut controls for the Mario Maker, you could make an amazing tool that would allow users to create and share there musical creations with anyone who would listen. After placing the foundation of the melody you could place it upon your TV screen while your tablet will serve as a mixer board of sorts. Add and subtract percussion instruments, change the pitch of the notes, even add something you recorded and you’ve got an amazing application at your fingertips. You could create your own songs which many could benefit from like an indie studio trying to make a great score for there original game. Uses could be limitless and ideas can create the future installments of games.

Not only could you bring back Paint, but you could open the floodgates to other ideas in this sort of series. What about a Legend of Zelda top down creator or an adventure through your own 3d Lylat system. Nintendo has an abundance of worlds and there is no reason to stop just at Mario.
Whatever path lies ahead for Nintendo, I hope they continue remembering the past and push forward by remaking the future. Mario Maker will set new goals and for those in the industry and for those who play its amazing labors. One thing, is for certain, is that Mario will continue 1-uping itself and the future of Nintendo will know no bounds just like its creative software, Mario Maker.
