Why Bayonetta 2 Is My Game of The Year

forbes.com
Is it possible for a game that I've never played, on a console that I don't own be my game of the year? The answer to that is a resounding YES! My game of the year of 2014 is Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U. As a long time PlayStation guy and current PS3 owner, there wasn’t a game on either console (PS4 or PS3) that I could consider to be my GOTY. But not only do I consider Bayonetta 2 to my favorite of 2014, it’s really made me consider buying a Wii U just to play this game.

Platinum Games took more than two years to develop this game, and they turned it into a well-polished masterpiece. The love and attention to detail they put into this game, from the excellent gameplay, the awesome controls that offer tons of variety, the dodging system that if done properly seems to reward the player for pulling it off, and that’s what I like as a gamer. I want to be rewarded for actually doing something well, and Bayonetta 2 provides that.

Now I didn’t even mention the many costumes, awesome Easter eggs, and bonus content (without having it be DLC) this game has and that totally blew me away. Add that, and the “Tag Climax” which is a two-player mode adds to the high replay ability this game has to offer. The story is very cheesy that’s full of sexual innuendo, homages to old Capcom and Sega games that made me laugh watching different play-throughs of the game on YouTube.

Bayonetta 2 is a game that reminds me why I’m a gamer. You got to give Nintendo credit for partnering up with Platinum Games to deliver this amazing game. The critic reviews from across the board were spot on (to my surprise) and justified the hype this game got and truly deserved. Is it perfect? No, but it gives me great joy that a game like this is out here. Now all I have to do now is get a Wii U and spend countless hours of my life playing it.
