Sector 13

This past Saturday the 10th of January I was cordially invited by Drew Clark and team to try out a fantastic action shooter from the cockpit of some elaborate space jets. Sector 13 is a multi-player action space shooter by Reactor Interactive holds and holds much potential when it comes to multiplayer games online. Though my time was short playing with these fantastic individuals, I was left with a lasting impression on the addictive, multi-player mayhem.

When
the intro launched I was quite happy with the musical score and it felt right
for the setting of space. This game allows you to choose from a healthy roster
of space fighter jets with different attributes that give them different speed,
ammunition, and handling. After choosing
the Air ship, called Cobra, I proceeded to join the lobby. Once the game
commenced you find yourself staring into the depths of space with lots of
terrains, space rocks, and man-made objects to dodge.

I wielded a PS3
controller on my PC and was pleasantly surprised on how well it handled. After
getting shot down multiple times I learned both that there are three different
speeds to the ship and they were not going to cut this newbie a break. What is
different about the speeds in Sector 13
is that instead of holding down a button to go faster you can select from 3
different speeds. Cruise is normal and you can either go slower gaining better
handling or go faster and try and escape your enemy trying to take you out.
Flying in and around these objects can take some practice but it sure feels
satisfying when you lose someone trying to shoot you down.

What I really enjoyed is the full 360-degree
movements that do not make you feel like you have lost track of where you are
or that you need to recover your bearings. You can use normal laser-like guns
or shoot a special gun as well, which in my case fired 4 special missiles at
target. Also there is a feature with certain controllers such as the Xbox
Controller and PC and MAC setups, which allows you to take in game screenshots.
The game has a variety of levels to offer as well as a single player
experience. I also enjoyed having a tag
name that will help identify your ship and easily tell who you are firing upon.
“Also, rumor has it that they are trying their best to make an Etch-a-Sketch a
playable controller.” (Inside joke & not at all true)

Sector 13 will be available on PC and MAC, and possibly coming to Xbox and PlayStation. I also would like to put in here that I would love to play this on the Wii U. Using the Wii U Game pad could really put a twist on how this game is played, but could still be played with the pro controller if necessary. I hope Reactor Interactive is up for that challenge.

This talented group of individuals has made a quality and addictive multi-player game. Fun and chaos are woven into the fabric of this cosmic space ride. I wish the team good luck in the remaining game development process and look forward to seeing the finished product. Remember me when you need an easy target in the game, tag name: Etch-a-Sketch!
