Author Stephen King – a writing God of over 40 years
The name
Stephen King has been rattling novel bylines since 1967 when he released his
first short story, The Glass Floor. Many
of us reading or watching his work today are probably more familiar with
the pigs blood dripping down Carrie’s face, or the iconic gentle man named John
Coffey we grew a heart for in the Green Mile series.
While I
have not read The Glass Floor myself,
I can easily call Stephen King a writing God, with confidence. He has had a
writing career for 40 years, with work not only hitting television screens but
the big screen as well. Plus he is maintaining his popularity even in today’s
society where E-Books trump an actual trip to Chapters.
Yes, he
is known for his dark writing style but one novel I have read and want to
mention is Stephen King – a Memoir of the
Craft - on writing. I quite enjoyed
that one myself. My husband however has read every Dark Tower novel he could get his hands on and will probably go
after King’s upcoming releases this year.
Now, I
know most of you will recognize the movies I’m about to list, but did you know
that they are adaptations of Stephen King novels? Examples include Carrie, Pet Sematary, It, The Green Mile
and Under the Dome, which is a
television show currently in its third season. That is what I call success
folks, and I’m only touching base here with some of his work.
Here is
an interesting fact though, you can go to www.stephenking.com and see what movies or television appearances
he made in his own work and I think that’s really neat!
I will
give you a few movies and or TV episodes he has appeared in: he played a pizza
delivery guy in the TV- miniseries Rose
Red in 2002, he appeared in Fever
Pitch in 2005 and he appeared in an episode of Sons of Anarchy, in 2010.
One of
his recent novels called Mr. Mercedes,
is a book I want to check out. It is about a crowd full of unemployed people at
a job fair hoping to find work when a Mercedes drives through the crowd killing
eight and injuring more. The killer disappears and then taunts a detective.
While the hardcover edition came out in June 2014, the paperback edition of
this book became available January 6, 2015, according to www.stephenking.com.

Now
another interesting novel worth a read is called Revival. King released it November 2014, and you can purchase it
as a hardcover, e-book, and audio book.
It is
described as an intense novel about addiction, fanaticism and what could exist
in the afterlife. The novel takes place in a small town in New England and of
course, includes tragedy that begins with a small boy over half a century ago. King’s
website describes this novel as “on its way to the most terrifying conclusion
Stephen King has even written.”
Basically,
this is the novel you want to pick up
right now, if any. I’m telling my husband about it as we speak. Literally.

Now I
will not leave you wondering what he has in store for the future. So far,
Stephen King plans to release a novel called Finders Keepers, in June 2015 and a story collection called The Bazaar of Bad Dreams in November
2015. It is described on his website as being a short story collection of a lot
of hard to find, previously published short stories.
I cannot
wait to see… err… I mean read what this creative author comes up with next.
Perhaps I’ll pick up a copy of Revival and
get back to you on how it is.
