Jurassic World Trailer Review

comicbook.com
A week and a half ago came out the first trailer of the new “Jurassic Park” movie. "Jurassic World" seems to give birth to John Hammond's dream, creating a fully functional theme park with dinosaurs. The dream comes true as Jurassic World, located on a tropical island opens its doors and hosts the first visitors.  Set 22 years after the Jurassic Park incident, the current Park revenues declines, forcing the company to bring new ideas to the project. But something will go wrong, and the worse is to happen.

The long awaited trailer opens up on a couple of parents who apparently send their children on a trip to Jurassic World. The mother of two of the boys grins and says, "If something chases you....run". The teens do not seem very happy to go there, but they're going anyway.

After a brief glimpse of the boat that brings the visitors to the tropical island, we finally see the mythical set of the giant doors opening. Then we can discover a regular theme park alley, overcrowded by the visitors, all wearing hats (It must be really hot on this island).

Then goes a few scenes where you can see popular dinosaurs like a pack of Galimimus, Stegosaurus, and Brachiosaurus. Nothing that we don't already know. Nothing that is until we discover these "Gyro spheres", huge glass balls where you can fit two people. Did anyone have a better idea than putting to humans in something where dinosaurs can see through? Or will it be available only for excursions with the herbivore animals?

We continue our journey with a panoramic view of what appears to be an aquatic show arena, similar to Sea World. A Great White Shark is hanging above the water. Suddenly, a huge dinosaur jumps out of the water and swallows the whole shark. And huge waves splash, wetting the visitors. Yay!! Quite impressive indeed.

The trailers continues as we meet with Claire (actress Bryce Dallas Howard), the ruler (I assume) of the Park. She states that they learned so much in the last ten years that they were able to engineer a new dinosaur. What could possibly go wrong?!?

And finally Chris Pratt, playing Owen is introduced speaking with Claire, saying that creating new dinosaurs are "probably not a good idea.". We don't know much about Pratt's role in the movie yet, but there are rumors about him being a dinosaur trainer. There's something that could be explained later in the trailer.

We jump to a giant wall, where a security guard asks Owen what could make claws marks on a concrete wall that’s 40 ft. high. The answer is simple, "Depends of what they cooked up in that lab.". And then to one of the two kids from the beginning of the trailer who is holding a cracked helmet, that’s covered in blood.

That does not seem to go as expected.

Chris Pratt's character seems to be Claire's adviser on what to do, as he clearly demands her to

evacuate the island. We see them both near a destroyed Gyro Sphere and Pratt extracts a massive

claw/tooth from the hull.

Told ya it was not a good idea.

The "mutant" dinosaur is a female, as Owen

refers to it as "She will kill anything that

moves.". I feel so much better now.

And then goes different scenes where the visitors are desperately running away from something.

Owen is being chased by the mutant dinosaur. To me, the most badass scene of the whole trailer.

Horse-like paddocks opens up to free... nothing less than pack freaking raptors.  Yes.  Velociraptors, probably the most dangerous dinosaurs of the three movies. And they seem to tolerate Owen who is riding a motorbike with them. Will they help humans tracking and killing the mutant dinosaur?

The trailer ends on that epic view of raptors running along with Pratt, as the classic Jurassic Park theme plays, with a very "depressing/sad" note.

Overall, the trailer looks great, but why are they using CGIs ? The Jurassic Park franchise, its reputation is with animatronics. I can understand that creating dinosaur animatronics is no easy task, but so far I can't tell if I saw one in the trailer. Plus, the doors are way too important to be shown as CGI as well. The producer has already answered on Twitter that they had built real life doors and that those in the trailer were only made for this particular release.

The story appears to be very thin for now. The Park loses money, they try to bring in a new attraction with a mutant dinosaur that escapes and starts to rampage the island. So far, that's all we have.  And to be honest, I think that it looks great. I hope to find other clues that will be in the next trailer. Until then, we wait until and see.Coming soon, June 12th of 2015.
