Human error makes for a great movie, over and over I guess?
This summer a new breed of dinosaur steps foot
on earth in the new movie, Jurassic World, hitting theatres June 12, 2015,
however, the story hasn’t changed and again we watch society be picked off by
so called dinosaurs all due to human error, yet again. So here is the big question
I dare ask (even as a fan of the original film) did a Jurassic Park 4 need to be created?
My short answer is no. While Chris Pratt is a
great actor and I am sure will come out looking good in this movie, the movie
itself is not necessary. The need to
watch people take their last breath before being devoured by a dinosaur or
feeling the bone chilling silence before a raptor enters a room, is long gone.
It’s been done. We’ve gotten our thrills
and it could have been left alone. If you need proof, let’s look at how the
first three movies did at the box office shall we?

The original Jurassic Park hit theatres June 11, 1993 distributed by Universal
and according to www.boxofficemojo.com, was listed as a Sci-Fi Horror with a PG-13
rating. The movie run time was 2 hours and 7 minutes and its domestic total
gross was $357,067,947 while its domestic lifetime gross was $402,453,882. (Not
too shabby).

The second movie was Jurassic Park: The Lost World and was released May 23, 1997 by
Universal with the same genre and MPAA rating. However, its domestic total
gross was $229,086,679.

Then came Jurassic
Park III again distributed by Universal and released July 18, 2001 with the
same genre and PG-13 rating as before but this time its domestic total gross
was only $181,171,875.
So with a decline in profit, 13 years later
they decide to take another crack at it? YUP, Universal is at it again with Jurassic World, but the film has not yet
be stamped with an MPAA rating, nor do we know the production budget. However,
that being said, I can’t wait to see how much money this version rakes in,
given its attacking a fresh new audience of teenagers and grabbing the
curiosity of those who watched the original three movies.
On the bright side, there are some cool things that
will probably come with this new movie. One being the layout of the movies
official website www.jurassicworld.com, which actually has “fake” live weather
information, states the park is currently closed and will open in the morning
(because it is near 11 p.m. as I write this), has a countdown to when the movie
hits theaters, among other site features you should definitely check out.
Also as a toy collector of sorts and having
owned the original Jurassic Park
compound back in the day, I am actually excited to see what new toys will come
out with the movie and the way Chris Pratt’s career is going, perhaps I should
start collecting all of his different action figures eh?
To quote the movie directly from the official
trailer, “you just went and made a new dinosaur? Probably not a good idea,”
spoken by Chris Pratt’s character.
That
quote sums out how I feel about another movie being made about dinosaurs
scaring the crap out of people. I also feel the same way about Godzilla, but that is a whole other
article.

I will check out this movie when it hits theaters to do a further review but until then, enjoy the newly released movie
trailers, website and the countdown to another blood bath on the island of
dinosaurs.
