Seeker News :Mord-Sith. The Name Evokes Fear

Red Leather, Agiels, Killer Women

Mord Sith. The word just sends shivers down your spine. I love Terry Goodkind and The Sword of Truth series has had me from Wizards First Rule, The Omen Machine and the ill-fated show The Legend of the Seeker. One of the most colorful, loved/hated and complex characters is the Mord-Sith.

Kidnapped as children and then tortured, Mord-Sith are broken 3 times, each time worse than the last. I will spare the most colorful details but at the end of her “training”, a Mord-Sith is born. First the little girl is broken with the Agiel, a painful weapon that inflicts terrible pain. The little girls final test is to kill their own father (This happens after the Mord-Sith who trains her torures and kills her mother).

Mord-Sith are only women and the personal guard of Lord Rahl, the cruel ruler of D’Hara. Mord-Sith can capture magic with their Agiel and use it against the wizard who they captured as their personal pet to train. The Mord-Sith are without compassion. They blindly follow Lord Rahl.

The Mord-Sith is very recognizable by the dark red, skin tight leather they wear. The red is to hide the blood of those they are training or kill.

Mord-Sith are only loyal to Lord Rahl. When they are freed by Richard Rahl (Lord Rahl’s son, we will get into that story another time, I promise!), they are still loyal to Richard, especially Cara and keep their Agiels out of respect and not fear and being broken.

I recommend starting with Debt of Bones (the prequel), then diving right into Wizards First Rule. Be warned, once you start, you may never put them down!
Disclaimer: The books cover very mature topics and in very vivid detail.
