I know I can't be the
only person who looks back at the retro copies of games and gets instantly hit
with waves of nostalgia. I never owned a Nintendo myself, but I had
an Atari and I rocked Pacman, Asteroids,
Pitfall, Pole Position, and Mrs.
Pacman. It wasn’t until I was at a friends house and we played Super Mario Bros. and I was hooked. They
made Mario jump, they had Yoshi eating the bad guys, they were jumping through special tunnels to new
worlds, it was utterly amazing to me.
I played the new Mario with my kids and husband but it’s
not the same. The newer graphics are cooler and you can do more; but it’s not
the old Mario that just grabbed me
years ago. So here is a fun look back at the amazing evolution of Mario, Link,
Donkey Kong, and so many others who have gone from 8-bit to pretty darn realistic.
Link: Zelda has changed so much and Link has really gone from a really static flat, 8-bit to an amazing new fantasy hero.

Mario: so many faces
but the game is so similar. I personally loved the blocky, flat worlds the
best.
Donkey Kong: before we
know it he will look like a CG version from Planet
of the Apes.
Bowser: he still has
got it all these years later. I honestly don’t know which one I like the best.
My kids love the Mario Party version
the best.
Here is a great looks
at so many who have gone from 8-bit wonders of the video game world to the new
norm.
I honestly prefer the retro look. I don’t know if it’s because of the childhood memories
they bring back, the comfort of simpler times, but whatever it is; I know they
will always be here to stay.
